Conference Background The first Northern Rockies Bioneers Conference took place at the Emerson Cultural Center in Bozeman, Montana, in late October of 2003. After attending and volunteering at the national conference, Sam Porter was so inspired that he wanted to bring that energy to Bozeman. Luckily, the national site had just begun their Beaming Bioneers Program, where satellite partners receive a simultaneous broadcast of the Conference plenary talks and complement them with locally produced workshops, tours and activities tailored to the needs of specific bioregions. With his wife, Abby Porter, the fiscal support of BioRegions, International, and the help of many dedicated volunteers, the NRBC tradition began.
