About Us

Mission

The Bioregional OutReach Network - BORN- is a 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is connecting people-to-people and people-to-place through education, activism, the arts and events like the Bioneers Conference. These endeavors celebrate community, independence, peacefulness and solutions. We strive to educate our community- including teachers and students of all ages - about sustainability by creating open dialogue about new ideas and approaches to age-old problems as well as looking ahead to ensure a healthy plant for generations to come. BORN values seeding and initiating projects which connect people-to-people and people-to-place. We value empowering individuals and the power of combining our strengths. We do not claim ownership of ideas but prefer to connect people in ways that enable them to act effectively for themselves. BORN vaules the ongoing insipration of the imagination within our community. We believe in regular re-connection of people and projects as a means of reigniting the passion for progress. We value the Bioneers Conference and plan to continue to develop our relationship with this national, visionary movement. We respect the the combination of national perspectives with local and regional action. check out more at www.bioneers.org

Projects

Film and Discussion Series We screen documentaries on issues of importance to our bioregion, and then host facilitated conversations with local leaders in the related fields, promoting avenues for engagement on a local level. These events are gaining popularity in our community as well as with other groups who see it as an opportunity for collaboration.

E-Newsletters

We send out monthly e-newsletters on local and regional activities and events, as well as give updates on issues related to sustainability. Our e-newsletters reach around 2000 people throughout the region. They help to keep our community connected through knowledge sharing and providing links for independent research on the internet.

Street smART Bozeman

BORN is involved with helping neighborhoods create artistic community spaces. Inspired by the work of The City Repair Group in Portland OR - we are working with local residents to paint the streets, to reclaim public spaces while at the same time building community, creating safer intersections and creating a unique sense of place. Our first intersection painting will be happening on August 15th in the Northeast Neighborhood of Bozeman.

Supporting Local Agriculture

BORN is collaborating with local farmers and businesses to produce a Harvest Event - celebrating local foods and our farmers, offering education on agriculture and a sumptuous meal featuring Montana Foods. In addition to this celebration, we consistently use Montana grown, sourced and produced foods at the Northern Rockies Bioneers Conference. The past two year we have used 95% Montana based foods at the conference.

History

BORN took root in Bozeman, Montana in 2006. After four years of planning and creating The Northern Rockies Bioneers Conference(NRBC), founders Sam & Abby Porter felt it was time to create a non-profit organization that not only hosts the NRBC, but also several other ongoing projects. BORN was helped along the way by several community members and organizations. We would like to extend our thanks to BioRegions International, The Montana Community Foundation and New Priorities Foundation for their support of BORN from its infancy through today.
